The Canadian Library @ Humber

What is The Canadian Library?

Inspired by the work of British-Nigerian artist, Yinka Shonibare, The Canadian Library (TCL) is an art installation created as a living memorial to MMIWG and children. The TCL is helping facilitate the creation of micro- galleries across Canada, to be permanently placed in a major gallery at a later date.

Why are we building a microgallery at Humber?

• To create visual lessons to honour Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Children.
• To raise awareness and open conversation about the wrongdoings and inequities in Canada today.
• To recognize and reflect upon MMIWG2S in a supportive, creative and meaningful way at Humber.

Where did the fabric come from?

The Canadian Library partners with several Indigenous businesses to purchase fabric. More information about the artists and businesses are shared on TCL website.

Where will the micro-gallery be located?

After beginning the creation of The Canadian Library @ Humber during the Red Dress Day event, Humber's microgallery will be located at the North Campus Library, and will be completed this summer.
