Welcome to the Humber Polytechnic and University of Guelph-Humber Library Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) Resource Guide! Whether you're new to GenAI or consider yourself a seasoned GenAI user, we hope this resource provides some guidance on your journey. This guide includes sections on:

  • Definitions: Find support on many GenAI-related terms to help fill in your understanding as you engage with GenAI
  • Using GenAI Critically: Deepen your knowledge base on GenAI and significant impacts of GenAI in the larger context of the world
  • Citation: Find citation guidance for GenAI, using APA
  • Copyright: Learn about ongoing conversations around the use of GenAI and the legal considerations of GenAI companies as it relates to copyright

Before Using GenAI

In addition to reviewing this guide, completing the following tasks may help you more successfully navigate GenAI:

  • Review your Institution/Employer policies on GenAI
  • Complete the AI, Algorithms & You module
  • Complete the Academic Integrity & Citation Awareness module
  • Check in/ask your Professor if using GenAI is acceptable in your course or for a specific assignment
  • Connect with the Library Team for guidance on research
  • Review and reflect on privacy and intellectual property considerations related to the use of GenAI
  • Reflect on your reasons for using GenAI (brainstorming, definitions, summarizing, etc.)

Given the evolving nature of GenAI, this checklist is not exhaustive and is also subject to change.
